How do we make the b
est of a personal relationship? The truth is, none of us is born knowing the answer to this question. We must find it as we go, and there is only two ways to do that. First, we can draw lessons from our own experience. Second, we can learn from other people’s advice.
Sadly, this was easier to do in our grandmothers’ time than it is today. Back then, many of us lived in extended families and parenting styles were different. Children spent a lot of time around their adult relatives and magic of making up so had the opportunity to witness the adults’ responses to their own personal troubles. By the time these children grew up, they had a good idea of what they should do when faced with the same situations.
Today, most of us come into adulthood without the benefit of such preparation. We have to turn somewhere else for advice, from trained relationship counselors to useful e-books like “The Magic of Making Up.”
